Oct. 8 mystery trip seats still available

JOHNSTOWN — The following is for the Shirley J. Luck Senior Center, 109 E. Main St.

From 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday is the open house at the senior center. Find out the reasons to become a member for $15 a year. A silent auction will be held with the proceeds to benefit the Johnstown Music Support Group. The silent auction will have a variety of items to bid on including tickets to the Trans Siberian Orchestra; a gift certificate to the Stadium Golf Course; wine baskets, and other assorted gift baskets.

Members and non-members had recent trips to Cooperstown, Alexandria Bay, and Saratoga flat track. A group is in South Dakota with Collette Travel seeing Mount Rushmore and other famous sites. There are a few seats left for the mystery trip on Oct. 8. On Nov. 7, is a trip to see “A Caberet Christmas” in New Hartford. Anyone interested does not have to be a member of the center to go on the trips; just stop in and sign up.

The center has begun a Mah Jongg class from 10 a.m. to noon each Monday for four weeks and have two instructors to teach the game to beginners. Anyone who has a group and needs a place to play, would be welcome to come during that time. Anyone interested can call for more information or show up at 10 a.m. ready to play. The class began today.

Linda Eastman’s chair caning class will start Oct. 1, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. She invites new people to come and see what it is all about. Anyone who is new to chair caning or has questions, call Eastman at Linda’s Antiques at (511) 883-8306.

Wednesday: At noon, the lunch crew will meet at House of Pizza; call the center so they can reserve a seat.

Sept. 17: From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. free blood pressure clinic; walk in and get checked.

Sept.19: Open mic night starts at 6 p.m. Come at 5:30 p.m. to signup to show off talent.

Sept. 22: New York state pre-license five hour course. The registration starts 9:30 a.m., limited to 36 people. $35 cash and learner’s permit is required
