80-plus luncheon at Vrooman’s Sept. 17
CAROGA LAKE — The Nick Stoner Seniors meeting was called to order at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday, by Grace Eglin, president with 27 members and one guest present. Eglin led the group in “The Lord’s Prayer,” Pledge of Allegiance and Hello to your Neighbor.
Marion Snell gave the secretary’s report with one correction — Shirley Holliday miscounted the blind auction money; the correction was made. Sharon Fenstermacher made a motion to accept and Wayne Hutchins seconded it; all in favor accepted.
Holliday gave the treasury report and was accepted. Jean Griffin gave the hospitality report. She noted the next meeting on Sept. 17, will be at Vrooman’s for the 80 plus luncheon.
The refreshment committee for the Oct. 1 meeting will be Edna Bennett, Janice McLaughlin, Barbara McFee and Joyce Barnett.
Mary Lou Paterson gave the sunshine report. She sent out three birthday cards and one anniversary card this month. She said she didn’t send herself a birthday card it felt kind of weird.
McLaughlin gave the pen pal report. She has sent an e-mail to the teacher and is waiting for a return. She sent a slip around for anyone who wants a pen pal to sign up.
Eglin gave the trip report. The trip to Raquette Lake is Tuesday. Marion Snell made up posters for the Gavin trip on Nov. 12, to pass around; the cutoff date is Oct. 15, as the group will have no meeting on election day, Nov. 5.
Linda Rhinehart gave the T-shirt report. After much discussion, the group voted and decided to have green T-shirts with “Nick Stoner Seniors Caroga Lake, N.Y. established in 1979” on front and a photo of the carousel of Sherman’s on the back. She will have an order sheet available at next meeting.
In old business, Eglin received the dictionaries. She asked for someone to go to the third grade to help Eglin hand them out. She will contact the teacher and set a date.
In new business, Eglin wants all to think about who to nominate as a lifetime member. For those who want to nominate someone, it will be discussed at the next meeting.
There are two Tuesdays in December. Griffin wants to have a covered dish luncheon and a gift exchange for Christmas, which was tabled until Oct. 1. Rhinehart suggested having entertainment that day which was also tabled until a later date.
Barbara Haught and Holliday gave a refresher on the 80 plus luncheon Kathy Powell and Haught will take the money at the door. Fenstermacher will do the raffle tickets.
