Defensive driving class to meet today

FONDA — The Glen-Mohawk Seniors attended the annual picnic on Wednesday, at Kateri Tekawitha Shrine. The event, sponsored by the trip committee, included appetizers, a barbecue chicken dinner, and a white elephant sale. The proceeds from the sale were divided and given as prizes for bingo games which followed.

Those attending the second of a two session New York state defensive driving course, sponsored by Frank Casler Farmer’s Insurance, will meet from 1 to 4 p.m. today in the community room at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. The completion of the course gives participants a price reduction on their automobile insurance premiums and is good for three years.

The second of four workshops, under the direction of Molly Capito, nutrition outreach coordinator for Senior Health Improvement and Nutrition Education program will be held following the meeting on Tuesday. Through this workshop, Capito offers nutrition education, taste testing, ideas for food and fitness, and handouts and prizes at each session.

The trip committee is now taking registrations for two trips. The five-day trip to Coastal Maine is scheduled for Sept. 9 to 13, with Diamond Tours. There are still some seats available but the final payment date is due, for anyone interested in going. A one-day trip for lunch at Yanni’s Restaurant and to the MacHaydn Theatre to see “Oklahoma” on Aug. 22. The cost for members is $52 and for non-members is $62. The next regular weekly meeting will be on Tuesday at the Fonda Reformed Church hall. The doors open at 9 a.m. for socializing with refreshments. The meetings begin at 10:30 a.m. sharp. Glen-Mohawk Seniors is open to anyone who has reached the age of 55 or older.
