Number of trips planned for seniors
BROADALBIN — The Broadalbin Seniors met on Wednesday, with 47 members attending. Chaplain Marsha Prokop led the group in a prayer. The Pledge to the Flag was led by President Toni Hallenbeck, and lunch was served. Linda Gray read the secretary’s report, in the absence of Secretary Nancy Weiss. Motion to accept was made by Danny Mead and seconded by Joseph Gilston.
In the absence of Treasurer Jennifer Gilston, her husband, Joseph, gave the treasurer’s report. Motion to accept, pending audit, was made by Sue Moyer and seconded by Carol Cramer. The motion was carried. Sunshine Chair, Janet Austin reported that she sent out three get well cards. Prokop had no report. Program assistant chair, Karen Bogusz reported there will be a speaker from the Office for the Aging at the May 1 meeting and that our garage sale will be June 1. Volunteers for the garage sale are needed. The 50/50 drawing was held and the winner was Karen Bogusz.
Trip chair Toni Hallenbeck advised those going to Boston on Thursday that the bus will leave the information booth at 7 a.m. On May 2, for the trip to Proctors to see “Phantom of the Opera,” the bus will leave the information booth at noon.
There will be a meeting for those going to Wildwood, May 19 to 22, at 12:45 p.m., after the regular meeting on May 1.
Hallenbeck advised that there are a few openings on the trip to Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City, Canada June 2 to 7.
Other upcoming trips include Hildene (the home of Robert Lincoln) on June 18; Lake George lunch cruise on July 9; the MacHaydn Theater to see “Grease” on July 18; Lake Placid on September 25; and the Rockefeller Mansion on Oct. 24. Hallenbeck reminded people that the last day to sign up for the Sicily trip of Nov. 2 to 11 is May 3. After that date, the prices may change. She also advised anyone interested in the Renaissance Cruise in July 2020 to sign up now as the rooms are selling fast and already some are sold out.

In new business, Hallenbeck advised some of the services offered by the Office for the Aging. Discussion then turned to the scholarship for Broadalbin-Perth seniors given by the group. Prior to the meeting being adjourned, the group was entertained by a joke told by Sara Shopmeier.
