Arkell Center sets May events calendar

CANAJOHARIE — The following are the Arkell Center programs for all area seniors for May.

Each Monday through Friday: At 11:45 a.m. the Office for the Aging Meals of Montgomery Program serves hot meals, $3 donation for ages 60 and older. Call (518) 673-2000 for reservations.

Each Monday, Wednesday and Friday: From 10 to 10:30 a.m. is senior exercise program in the basement. Coffee after.

Each Tuesday:

∫ From 9 to 10 a.m. core strength and stability class in basement with Sharon Charles, instructor. Donation: $5.

∫ From 10 to 11 a.m. a new Tai Chi class begins, sponsored by MCOFA, with Earl O’Bryon, instructor. Donations accepted.

Each Wednesday:

∫ From 2 to 2:25 p.m. is chair yoga in the gallery.

∫ From 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. is gentle yoga with Patty Pietrowicz, instructor, in the basement. $5 donation.

Each Friday: From 9 to 10 a.m. yoga in the gallery. $10 fee.


Wednesdays: From 12:30 to 4 p.m. senior citizens pinochle card party; $2 with prizes and refreshments. Anyone who wants to sub can call (518) 673-5635.

Thursdays: From 10:15 to 11 a.m. Diet Club in the gallery at Arkell Center; (518) 673-2112.

May 6: From 6 to 8 p.m. knit-crochet with Carol Balfe.

May 7:

∫ From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. defensive driving class. Cost: 20. Reserve a spot by calling (518) 673-4408.

∫ From 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. blood pressure clinic by Home Health Care Partner’s Corp., co-sponsored by St. Mary’s and Nathan Littauer hospitals.

May 8: From 9:30 to 11 a.m. decision making day with Del Salmon. Breakfast at 9:30 a.m.; Salmon speaking from 10 to 11 a.m.; questions and answers on health care proxy, power of attorney, etc.

May 9: At 1 p.m. Leo Milman and the Canajoharie strings will perform for those who want to attend.

May 10:

∫ OFA Mother’s Day special: stuffed chicken breast, ranch mashed potatoes, carrots, roll, mandarin orange cake with pineapple cream frosting. Reserve by today.

∫ At 1 p.m. Carlie LeoGrande and fourth and fifth grade choir celebrate Mother’s Day.

∫ At 1 p.m. Canajoharie Senior Citizens club meeting. Bring paper goods for pantry.

May 14: At 6 p.m. Canajoharie-Palatine Bridge Chamber of Commerce meeting at Arkell Center.

May 16: At 1:30 p.m. water color with Shanna Becker in the gallery. Cost is $10.

May 23: At 1 p.m. Elinor and Friends will provide entertainment for Memorial Day.

May 24:

∫ At 1 p.m. Canajoharie Senior Citizens Club meeting. Bring paper goods for pantry.

∫ At 1:30 p.m. Jeff Smith from the sheriff’s department will discuss fraud in the area.

May 31: At 12:30 p.m. joint lunch OFA meal with chicken cordon bleu casserole, confetti rice, Brussel sprouts, wheat bread, pears. Gary Van Slyke will provide Memorial Day music directly following the meal.
