Couple celebrates 65th anniversary
Joseph Robert and Dorothy Mary Hanchar of Johnstown recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
The couple married Oct. 22, 1949, in a nuptial mass at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, Johnstown.
Dorothy (Sweeney) Hanchar is a 1970 graduate of Fulton-Montgomery Community College. She became a substitute school teacher and then worked as a stenographer-secretary for the state Office of Probation before retiring from the state Office of Environmental Conservation in 1989.
Joe Hanchar is a World War II veteran and was a self-employed painting contractor, retiring in 1987.
The couple enjoys livng in their own house, made possible by regular visits from their children, Mark J. Hanchar of Barrington, R.I., and Deborah R. Hanchar of Great Falls, Va., and a team of at-home caregivers. They enjoy ball games, game shows and classic movies on TV and old comedies on tape. They also enjoy playing cards.
