Bite-sized is a regular feature highlighting local food festivals, special events, menu changes, restaurant news and more. Let’s dig in.

Beets on tap

Unbeetable, a Schenectady-based vegan bar and arcade, is getting into the brewing game. The saison leans into the bar’s name, with freshly smoked beets and hints of lemon and ginger. Called Back Beet Beer, it’s set for release on Friday.

To concoct the beer, Unbeetable’s owner Chelsea Heilmann had some assistance from Backstage Pub, Wolf Hollow Brewing Company and Seven Points Brewery.

“I’ve never been part of a brewing experience where we’ve had a vision and have been able to bring it to life,” Heilmann posted on social media. “I would have never imagined being able to have a beer with all of our names on it from such amazing and all-local businesses.”

To celebrate the release, there will be a pub crawl from 7 to 9 p.m. at Backstage Pub and then from 9 to 11 p.m. at Unbeetable. For every pint of beer purchased on Friday, $1 will be donated to Homeward Bound Dog Rescue of NY.

“Come out and join the fun, buy beers, give back to one of the best dog rescues around and enjoy this incredible labor of love we have created,” Heilmann said.
