Need financial aid? FM has you covered

Do you have a child who is thinking about attending college in the fall of 2018?  Are you in need of help trying to navigate the financial aid process necessary to get money to help cover the cost of college? Well, great news.   Over the next few months, the financial aid experts at Fulton-Montgomery Community College will get you the help you need.

Sunday, Oct. 1, is the date in which you are able to start the financial aid process for the 2018-2019 academic year. This is when you are able to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application, and apply for the new Excelsior scholarship.  FM will be hosting many different events to help you sort through all of the information, get what you need to file all of the applications and work hand in hand with you to file all the necessary paperwork.

The financial aid team will be going into all of the local high schools to help students and parents file the FAFSA, TAP and Excelsior scholarship applications.  The dates are as follows:

∫ Amsterdam High School, Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m.

∫ Fonda-Fultonville High School, Oct. 5 at 6 p.m.

∫ Mayfield High School, Oct. 10 at 6:30 p.m.

∫ Fort Plain High School, Oct. 11 at 6:30 p.m.

∫ Wells Central Schools, Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m.

∫ Northville High School, Oct. 18 at 6:30 p.m.

∫ Canajoharie High School, Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m.

∫ Galway High School, Oct. 24 at 6:30 p.m.

∫ Broadalbin-Perth High School, Oct. 25 at 6:30 p.m.

∫ OESJ High School, Oct. 30 at 6:30 p.m.

∫ Gloversville High School, Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m.

At these events there will be a short presentation to cover sources, types and specific awards for federal, state and institutional financial aid.  We will then move to computer labs to help students and parents file the forms necessary for your student to receive aid for the 2018-19 academic year.

If you plan to attend, please remember to bring your 2016 federal and state tax returns and W-2’s, social security numbers, dates of birth and a valid e-mail address.

Also, on Nov. 18, during FM’s fall open house, there will be another opportunity to receive assistance filing the financial aid applications.  After you hear all about what FM has to offer students, we will be opening our Evans Library to assist students and parents at our annual SUNY Financial Aid Day.  Any student, no matter what college you plan on attending, needing help to file the forms may attend that day to get one on one help filing the forms.

Please plan on spending some time with us to get these forms filed early to get the best possible financial aid package for yourself or your child.  If you have any questions, please contact the Financial Aid Office at (518) 736-3622, Ext. 8201 for assistance.
