Man wins $10M from lotto ticket
FORT EDWARD (AP) — A New York man will be living large thanks to his decision to buy some Slim Jims for his dog.
New York Lottery officials say Monday that 73-year-old Dale Farrand recently won the $10 million prize on a Cash Spectacular scratch-off ticket.
The Fort Edward man says he bought a $30 ticket at a local Cumberland Farms convenience store while buying Slim Jims snacks for his dog Boots.
He scratched the ticket in his car and realized he was a winner. Farrand says he drove straight home and had his wife check the ticket for him.
Farrand will receive a lump-sum payment of $6.7 million after required withholdings.
Toddler shows drugs during traffic stop
NEW SCOTLAND (AP) — State Police say a toddler showed a trooper a bag of marijuana during a traffic stop, resulting in the arrest of the child’s mother and the man she was riding with.
State police say two troopers stopped a car Thursday and found the butt ends of marijuana cigarettes in the ashtray and a 3-year-old girl who wasn’t in a child’s car seat. Police say while one of the troopers questioned the driver, the girl reached under a seat and showed the other trooper a bag of marijuana and a smoking pipe.
The 26-year-old man driving the car and the girl’s 33-year-old mother was charged with child endangerment. The girl has been turned over to relatives and Albany County Child Protective Services was notified of the arrests.
