AMSTERDAM - An Amsterdam man traveled through the city threatening people with a hunting bow from the back of a pickup truck while wearing body armor last weekend, Amsterdam police said.

John L. Graveley, 22, of Amsterdam, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, along with misdemeanor counts of menacing, reckless endangerment and unlawful purchase of body armor, police said.

The call came in just after 4 p.m. Saturday, April 27, for a man in the bed of a pickup truck with a weapon driving in the area of Forbes Street, police said.

Police responded and received additional calls en route describing the man as wearing a black mask and tactical vest while holding a hunting style bow and arrow in the bed of a gray pickup truck on Elk Street, police said.

More calls then came in as police spoke to a witness. The calls placed the man on Fourth Avenue, police said.

"Patrol responded and located the suspect vehicle in the area of the five corners where a traffic stop was conducted. The suspect now identified as, Gravely, was located in the vehicle wearing a black tactical style vest and was taken into custody without incident," a police release reads.

A search of the vehicle located a hunting style compound bow and hunting arrows, police said.

Police then received information that at least two victims had been menaced by Gravely with the bow and arrow, police said.

Gravely was charged and held for arraignment.
