Darling Field hosts Gloversville Open

GLOVERSVILLE – In an effort to celebrate the newly resurfaced tennis courts at Darling Field, the city hosted the 2017 Gloversville Open tennis tournament Aug. 13.

It featured men’s singles and doubles tournaments.

The city asks all citizens of Gloversville to respect the courts and not cause any damage to them. No bicycles, skateboards or anything else is allowed on the courts other than people playing tennis.

In the men’s singles tournament, Saratoga Springs’ Dan Bern posted an 8-2 victory over Gloversville’s Damian Bruce in the championship match. In the semifinals, Bern posted an 8-4 victory over Gloversville’s Michael Sitts, while Bruce notched an 8-1 victory over Gloversville’s Brian Hugo.

In the men’s doubles tournament, Gloversville’s Scotty Bruce and Damian Bruce posted an 8-3 victory over Amsterdam’s Randy VanBrocklin and Sitts.

In the semifinals, Sitts and VanBrocklin registered an 8-0 victory over Gloversville’s Nicholas Bruce and Hugo, while Scotty Bruce and Damian Bruce posted an 8-4 victory over Amsterdam’s Stepan Dyakiv and Gerry DeCusatis.

Other participants in the tournament were J.B. Cantebury, Bill Ackerbauer and Bill Doran.
