Area girls earn scholar-athlete honors

Several area girls basketball players were among those honored at the Section II Girls Basketball Scholar-Athlete Banquet on Sunday at the Albany Marriott.

Gloversville coach Molly D’Arcy earned the Section II Sportsmanship Award, while Gloversville’s Harmony Philo was named the top scholar-athlete for the Foothills Council.

Mayfield’s Taryn LaFontaine was named the top scholar-athlete from the Western Athletic Conference.

Amsterdam’s Elena Fedullo, Broadalbin-Perth’s Allison McDonald and Johnstown’s Amber Tesi also earned scholar-athlete honors in the Foothills Council.

Fonda-Fultonville’s Alyssa Duval, Canajoharie’s Mollie Krug, Galway’s Samantha Grant, Northville’s Brianna Bace and Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville’s Emma Hart also earned WAC scholar-athlete awards.

Rounding out the Foothills Council honorees were Glens Falls’ Matelyn Benway, Queensbury’s Shea Murray, Schuylerville’s Maggie McShane, Scotia-Glenville’s Ashlyn O’Neil and South Glens Falls’ Emma Bovair.

Rounding out the WAC recipients were Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Riley Morrow, Duanesburg’s Sophia Loukides, Middleburgh’s Kelsey Terrell and Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons’ Abby Kienzle.
