Sise, Yager, Henderson, Darnell to be inducted into Hall of Fame
AMSTERDAM — The Amsterdam Baseball Hall of Fame Committee has announced the 2019 inductees into the Amsterdam Baseball / Mohawks Baseball Hall of Fame.
The four will be honored at a dinner Feb. 9 at St. Mary’s Institute. More than 350 guests typically attend the dinner and this year’s event is expected to sell quickly as well.
Former Amsterdam legend Robert ‘Bob’ Sise along with former Amsterdam High School player Chris Yager, are the Amsterdam history inductees. On the Mohawks side, inducted will be former player Logan Darnell, who played for the Mohawks in 2008, starred at Kentucky and then pitched in the major leagues for the Twins. Along with Darnell will be his former college coach Gary Henderson, who has no ‘official’ title with the Mohawks but has sent countless professional and top players to Amsterdam in his role as Head Coach of Kentucky from 2009-2016, pitching coach at Mississippi State in 2017, and Head Coach at World Series finalist Mississippi State in 2018. Henderson has been one of the most influential people in Mohawks history, as he is also the person who introduced Mohawks GM Brian Spagnola to current Coach Keith Griffin back in 2008.
Jesse Barfield, former Yankees and Blue Jays great, will be the keynote speaker of the event, which will feature a new streamlined format.
Tickets for the evening are $45 and include a cocktail hour from 5 to 6:30 p.m., a full Italian family-style dinner, and autograph/picture time with Barfield. The evening, as always, also has both an extnesive silent and live auction.
A table of 10 is available for $400, while a table of eight will cost $320. Children will cost $20 and general admission seating, which does not include dinner, is available for $20.
Sponsors for the event are Driscoll Foods, Amsterdam Print, The Recorder, CSEA, and River Ridge Living Center.
