Galway clinches WAC title
SCOTIA — Lindsay Zawisa finished with 15 points, 13 kills and four aces to lead Galway to a 3-0 victory over Mekeel Christian Academy in a Western Athletic Conference volleyball match Thursday.
The Golden Eagles won by scores of 25-10, 25-19 and 25-17.
The win clinched the WAC title for Galway, which improved to 11-0 overall and 10-0 in WAC play.
Emma Smith posted 10 assists and eight kills for the Golden Eagles, while Katy Kurtzner added 22 digs and 10 points.
Sophia Armao posted seven assists, six points, five digs, three kills and two aces for Mekeel Christian (4-8 overall, 4-6 WAC), while Keely Lagon finished with four kills, three aces and three points.
Fonda-Fultonville 3, Berne-Knox-Westerlo 0
BERNE — Marilyn Whitcavitch finished with 10 kills, five aces, three digs and two blocks to lead Fonda-Fultonville to a WAC victory over Berne-Knox-Westerlo.
Julia Bagnardi finished with 15 assists and five digs for the Lady Braves, while Jillian Wilder had five digs and four aces. Cassey Knowlton had three kills for FFCS, Kaitlyn Gray finished with two kills and Natalie Demitraszek had three digs. Taylor Etherton and Alexys Conti each had four digs for the Lady Braves.
Duanesburg 3, OESJ 0
ST. JOHNSVILLE — Victoria Passonno posted 11 service points, six aces, five kills and three blocks to lead Duanesburg to a WAC victory over Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville.
The Eagles won by scores of 25-14, 25-21 and 25-23.
Annabelle Rieseler finished with 10 service points, six aces and three kills for Duanesburg, and Sophia Loukides had four kills and four service points.
Fontana LaCoppola had five aces and five kills for OESJ, while Hannah Ouderkirk had three aces. Shaina Golladay posted four aces, four kills, four assists and three digs for the Lady Wolves and Kenidee Oare had four kills and three assists.
