Mohawks get past Saugerties, 5-2

SAUGERTIES — Michael Ludowig and Tanner Allen each had home runs to help Amsterdam post a 5-2 victory over Saugerties in a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League contest at Cantine Veterans Memorial Field on Wednesday.

The win gave the Mohawks sole possession of first place in the East Division.

Cole Barr had a single and a double for Amsterdam, while Mike Antico and Justin Foscue each had two hits.

Amsterdam took an early lead on the strength of a two-run home run by Ludowig in the first inning,

The Mohawks scored again in the second inning after Barr hit an RBI single, scoring Foscue, who singled earlier in the inning. A wild pitch later in the inning scored Jake Hammon to give Amsterdam a 4-0 lead.

Saugerties scored a run of their own after Derek Ripp hit into a fielder’s choice in the fifth innings to score Cam Coakley to cut the Stallions lead down to three.

Amsterdam answered with a sole home run by Allen in the top of the sixth to make it 5-1.

The Stallions scored the game’s final run in the seventh after Jordan Kozicky hit an RBI single to score Noah Searcy.

Kozicky and Ripp each finished with two singles for Saugerties.

Amsterdam is scheduled to host Albany today at 6:35 p.m. at Shuttleworth Park.
