AMSTERDAM — The Canajoharie Cougars continued their postseason run, pulling off their second upset victory by defeating second-seeded Rensselaer 12-1 in a Section II, Class C semifinal game Wednesday at Shuttleworth Park.

With the victory, the sixth-seeded Cougars advance to the championship game for the first time since 2010 and will play top-seeded Maple Hill at 4 p.m. Friday at Joe Bruno Stadium on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.

Aiden O’Neil led Canajoharie (10-6) with a double, two singles and five RBIs.

“We go back to practice [today] and just want to tighten a couple of loose ends up,” Canajoharie coach Cody Lillich said. We are going to stick to what we do. There are a couple of little things we need to tighten up and still keep having fun.”

Section II Class C Semifinals

Maple Hill 11, Galway 1

AMSTERDAM — Top-seeded Maple Hill advanced to Friday’s championship game against No. 6 Canajoharie with a five-inning, 10-run rule victory over fifth-seeded Galway at Shuttleworth Park.

Austin Barden came up with the game-ending single to score Tyler Hanrahan and Quinn Pratico to put the score at 11-1 with one out in the bottom of the fifth.

Nick Hanna and James Hoffman had two singles apiece for Galway, while Mike Sowle also singled.

The Golden Eagles run came in the top of the fifth when Sowle led off with a single and later came around to score on Eric Malanoski’s fielder’s choice.

With the victory the Wildcats improve to 16-5 on the season, while Galway finishes the season 10-5 overall and 8-2 in the Western Athletic Conference.

Section II Class D Semifinals

Fort Plain 8, Hartford/Fort Edward 1

GLENS FALLS — The Hilltoppers advanced to their third-straight title game with the victory over Hartford/Fort Edward Wednesday at East Field.

Brady Fureno led Fort Plain (14-3) three singles, two RBIs and two runs scored, while Bryce Thibodeau had two singles an RBI and a run scored and Nate Buley added a double, single, two stolen bases, an RBI and a run scored.

John Cortese got the win on the mound allowing three hits and striking out 14.

Second-seeded Fort Plain will square off against top-seeded Whitehall at 4 p.m. Saturday at Joe Bruno Stadium on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.

The Railroaders topped fourth-eeded and defending state Class C champion Fort Ann, 11-1, in their quarterfinal contest.

Little Falls 10, Dolgeville 4

DOLGEVILLE — Ninth-seeded Little Falls pushed six runs across the plate in the top of the sixth to defeat No. 8 Dolgeville in Section III Class C second-round action Wednesday at Dolgeville High School.

Kyle Celio led the Mounties with three singles, two RBIs and three runs scored. Mason Trumbull collected four RBIs with a double and a single, while Andrew Celio had a single and two RBIs. Parker Tooley struck out seven to get the win on the mound.

Mathew Main had a double, two singles and an RBI for the Blue Devils, while Riley Nagle had two hits and scored a run and Devin Gorinshek singled, scored a run and collected two RBIs.
