Constantino picks up win at Glen Ridge
FULTONVILLE — There were plenty of repeat winners Sunday at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park.
Luke Horning (pro stock) and Andy Graves (mini stock) claimed their third victory in as many races, while Mike Hill (senior slingshot) and Garrett Poland (junior slingshot) each posted their second straight win.
Also visiting Victory Lane were Dave Constantino (crate modified), Derrick McGrew Jr (limited sportsman) and Randy Miller (street stock).
In the crate modified feature, Constantino and Tim Hartman Jr. started on the front row with Constantino gaining the early advantage.
Adam McAuliffe in the DeRocher No. 10D, watched the battle unfold hoping to get a chance to challenge the top running duo. A few caution flags would bunch up the field, with Constantino getting away, but not without Hartman even closer in tow.
Hartman showed him the nose a couple of times, and with two laps to go, the pair were side-by-side for the lead, both looking for their first win of the season. They went into turn one, rub rail to rub rail, but Constantino had momentum coming off turn 2 and rocketed back into sole possession of the lead for the remaining circuit to pick up the Mother’s Day win — his 16th career victory at Glen Ridge.
Hartman was second, followed by McAuliffe, Joe Orlando and Don Bellen.
Greg Perron and two-time winner of the season Bill August led the limited sportsman feature to the green flag with Perron taking the point going into the first turn. On lap 2, both August and Kathy Bellen slowed on the speedway bringing out the lone caution of the race.
When racing resumed, Perron took off and set his sights for the future. Derrick McGrew Jr, who started fourth, was digging hard every lap, eventually shrinking Perron’s lead, but it would not be enough, as Greg Perron brought home his green and white numbered 3G to his first career checkered flag. McGrew, Larry Niemiec, Ryan Heath, and Shane Larman completed the top five. However, post-race inspection saw the win taken away from Perron, awarding the win to McGrew, who earned his first-ever win in the division at Glen Ridge.
Horning continued his pro stock division dominance and taking advantage of the heads-up starting procedure, and took his Classic Muscle Parts No. 2H to the front of the field, and led wire to wire to pick up another victory on the early racing season. It was Horning’s 12th career win in the division at Glen Ridge. Ivan Joslin, Devon Camenga, Justin Knight and Jamie Warner rounded out the top five.
In the mini stock division, P.J. Bleau and the undefeated Andy Graves started the 15-lap main event on the front row. Graves took off and never looked back leaving Bleau and Cole Lawton to battle for the runner-up spot. Hill went on to post his fifth career win. Bleau came home second, followed by Lawton, Wayne Russell Jr. and Kurt Simonds.
Mike Hill missed Week 1 in the senior slingshot division. but has not missed victory lane since. Hill started third in the highly-competitive senior slingshot division. Bryce Cherko would not let him win without a battle, but it just wasn’t enough to catch Hill. Cherko was second, Brett Putnam was third, Tyler Vadney was fourth and Jim Mudge completed the top five.
It was Hill’s sixth career win in the division at Glen Ridge.
In the junior slingshot division, Garrett Poland found victory lane once again in his No. 40G, this time holding off Matthew Backus, Connor Hill, Darryn Fallis and Julianna DeRocher.
In the first leg of the Albany Saratoga Speedway/Glen Ridge Street Stock Challenge Series, Dave Stickles and Scott Lawrence led the field to the green flag. The lead by Stickles was short lived after Randy Miller took over the top spot. John Young, and the rest of the field gave a valiant effort to catch Miller, but he would not be denied. Young, Stickles, Randy Cosselman and Scott Lawrence completed the top five. It was Miller’s first win in the division at Glen Ridge.
Racing returns to Glen Ridge on Sunday, with a regular show. Racing is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
