Amsterdam softball earns victory

AMSTERDAM — The Amsterdam softball team posted a 6-5 victory over Salem in the opening round of the Mayfield Tournament on Saturday.

The Lady Rams scored all six of their runs in the second innings.

Megan LaMont had a two-run home run for Amsterdam (6-3 overall), while Nicole DeRose, Maddy Carmona and Sydney Szczepanik all had singles.

Kyndra Riche and Blake Riche each had solo home runs for Salem.

In the other first-round game, host Mayfield dropped a 5-2 decision to Cambridge.

Miranda Seacord had a triple, single and scored a run for Cambridge, while Victoria Dupuis had a double and two RBIs. Kayla Liglio added a double and an RBI for the Indians, and Jordyn Griffin added two singles.

Sydney Benton had a single, double, RBI and a run scored for Mayfield (3-3 overall), while Lindsey Hampton had a double. Sydney Sheldon added a single and an RBI for the Panthers, and Taryn LaFontaine had a single and a run scored.

The consolation and championship games were postponed due to rain.
