Swimmers compete at state meet

EAST MEADOW — Amsterdam’s Thomas Knack and Canajoharie-Fort Plain’s Joe Trembley competed at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Boys Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday at the Nassau County Aquatic Center.

This is the second consecutive year the Aquatic Center has hosted the state meet and the seventh time in the past 15 years. The Nassau County Aquatic Center also is scheduled to host for the boys championships in 2019 and 2020.

Knack was 33rd in the 100-yard breaststroke prelims with a time of 1:01.47.

Hauppauge’s Jack Casey posted the top time in the 100 breaststroke prelims with a time of 55.49 seconds.

Canajoharie-Fort Plain’s Joe Trembley posted a time of 21.98 seconds to place 34th in the 50-yard freestyle prelims.

South Lynbrook’s Timothy Marski posted the top time in the 50 freestyle prelims with a time of 20.63 seconds.

Trembley finished 41st in the 100-yard freestyle prelims with a time of 49.13 seconds.

Chaminade’s Christian Sztol posted the top time in the 100 freestyle prelims with a time of 45.50 seconds.

The top 30 in each event advanced to today’s A, B and C finals. The meet concludes today with the finals, starting at 10:30 a.m.
