Raiders run ends in regional final
HERKIMER — The postseason run by the Fulton-Montgomery Community College men’s basketball team came to an end Sunday in the NJCAA Division III, Region III tournament.
The eighth-seeded Raiders led 35-31 at the half but could not hold off second-seeded Herkimer College as the Generals rallied to post a 74-64 victory and claim the regional title.
Darren Demmitt led FMCC with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Chris Toussaint finished with 14 and Jaleel Jean Jacques added 11 points for the Raiders.
Tashaun Beckles led the Generals scoring with 17 points, while tournament MVP Derrick Felder finished with 13 and Solomon Silas added a double-double of 12 rebounds and 10 points.
FMCC reached its first regional championship game since 2007 by upsetting top-seeded Mohawk Valley in the quarterfinals before knocking off No. 4 Cayuga Saturday, 101-94 to reach the championship game.
Demmitt and Toussaint were named to the all-tournament team.
The Raiders closed out their season with a 15-11 overall record.
