Lady Rams fall short in title game

TROY — For the third time in as many years, the Amsterdam girls basketball team had its season ended in the Class A championship by Averill Park.

The third-seeded Lady Rams dropped a 79-60 decision to the top-seeded Warriors, who won their fifth straight Class A crown.

Amelia Wood finished with 20 points to lead Averill Park, while Stephanie Jankovic and Mallory Wood each had 19 points.

The Warriors outscored the Rams 41-23 in the first half on their way to the victory.

Giuliana Pritchard scored 25 points to lead Amsterdam, while Lucia Liverio had 11 points. Jackie Stanavich added nine points for the Lady Rams.

Amsterdam finished its season with a 20-3 overall record.

Averill Park (21-2) advances to the Class A regionals on March 10 at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy at noon to face either Section X champion Massena or Section III champion Jamesville-DeWitt.
