B-P girls lose to Watervliet

WATERVLIET — Meghan Murray and Makayla Milligan each scored 17 points to lead fifth-seeded Watervliet to a 64-48 victory over 12th-seeded Broadalbin-Perth in the first round of the Section II Class B girls basketball tournament Monday.

The Cannoneers led 28-19 at the half and broke the game open by outscoring the Lady Patriots 24-15 in the third quarter.

Raynelle Davis finished with 14 points for Watervliet, while Madison Soroka added 10 points.

Nyah Thompson had a game-high 27 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead Broadalbin-Perth, Makenzie Smith finished with 11 points for the Lady Patriots and Emma Goebel added eight points.

Watervliet advances to face either No. 4 seed Schalmont or No. 13 seed Catskill in the quarterfinals Saturday. The Sabres and Cats meet today in Rotterdam in the first round at 6 p.m.

Broadalbin-Perth finished its season with a 4-17 overall record.
