Inductees named for Hall of Fame event

AMSTERDAM — The Amsterdam Baseball Hall of Fame Committee has announced the 2018 inductees into the Amsterdam Baseball/Mohawks Baseball Hall of Fame.

The four will be honored at a dinner Feb. 3 at St. Mary’s Institute. More than 350 guests typically attend the dinner and this year’s event is expected to have an even larger turnout.

Former Amsterdam legends Francis ‘Dutch’ Howlan and Bill Stanley, who both played in the minor leagues, are the Amsterdam history inductees. On the Mohawks side, inducted will be former player Matt Colantonio, who played for two Mohawks championship teams in 2009 and 2010 and starred at Brown University and in the Cleveland Indians organization along with current Wake Forest assistant coach Bill Cilento, a 2002 Mohawks assistant coach who has sent many great players to the Mohawks over the years, including Colantonio while Cilento was at Brown.

George Foster, former NL MVP and Cincinnati Reds standout, will serve as the keynote speaker of the event..

Tickets for the evening will cost $45 and include a cocktail hour from 5 to 6:30 p.m., a full dinner, and autograph/picture time with Foster.  The evening, as always, also has both an extensive silent and live auction.

A table of 10 is available for $400, while a table of eight will cost $320. Children’s tickets will cost $20 and general admission seating, which does not include dinner, will cost $20.
