It was another banner year for the local sports teams and athletes with multiple division, league, sectional and a state championship. New records were established and milestones reached.

Broadalbin-Perth’s Jeff Derwin came within a single throw of winning the Div.-2 state discus championship in 2016. This year he went back to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship meet and came home with the gold in the discus and a silver medal in the shot put.

The Northville girls soccer team battled their way to their first Class D Sectional championship since 2011 before fallling in the state quarterfinals to Eldred.

Derwin’s gold-medal performance and the Lady Falcons return to the top of Section II Class D soccer top the list of accomplishments of our local athletes and teams this year.
