Gloversville swims past Amsterdam in its season-opening meet
GLOVERSVILLE — Gloversville won seven of 12 events on its way to a 99-56 victory over Amsterdam in a Foothills Council boys swim meet Thursday at Gloversville Middle School.
Danny Helou won the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly for Gloversville, while Brandon Becker (200 freestyle), Tyler Kemmet (100 freestyle) and Yxlphrm Burke (1-meter diving) also posted wins.
Gloversville also won the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.
In the 200 medley relay, the team of John Fancher, Jacob Sweeney, Helou and Dane Dillenback posted a time of 1:05.72 for the Sea Dragons.
The team of Benjamin Smouse, Kemmet, Becker and Nicholas Vincent recorded a time of 1:49.62 to win the 200 freestyle relay for Gloversville.
Thomas Knack won the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke for Amsterdam.
Alex Slovack (100 backstroke) and Trevor Dzikowicz (500 freestyle) also posted wins for the Rams.
Amsterdam also won the 400 freestyle relay as the team of Dzikowicz, Bradley Jasewicz, Sam Phetteplace and Lucas Sarabia posted a time of 4:24.19.
Gloversville (1-0 overall) is scheduled to travel to Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk on Tuesday, while Amsterdam (0-1 overall) is slated to travel to Albany Academy on Tuesday. Both meets are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
