Cougars advance to title game at Palmer Tourney

CANAJOHARIE — Luke VanSlyke and Andrew Yacobucci both topped the 20-point mark as the Cougars advanced to the championship game of the annual Andy Palmer Christmas Tournament.

VanSlyke used an 11-for-13 effort from the free-throw line to build his game-high 24 points, while Yacobucci hit three 3-pointers in his 20 points effort and Nick Shariff also had three 3-pointers in his 19-point performance.

VanSlyke, Yacobucci and Shariff all hit for eight points for the Cougars in the decisive 26-point third quarter.

Matt Barton led Frankfort-Schuyler with his 22-point effort that included five 3-pointers, while DeVan Leon and Adam Haddad scored 12 points apiece and Kyler Wheat added 11 points.

The Cougars will face Schoharie for the tournament title today.

Schoharie advanced to the championship game with a 67-52 victory over Little Falls.

STILLWATER — Garrett Delaney poured in six of Mayfield’s 10 3-pointers in the game but it was not enough to get past host Stillwater in the opening round of the Stillwater tournament.

Delaney finished the night with 26 points, while Tommy Gates added 11 points to the Panthers attack.

Sophomore Brian McNeil led Stillwater with 18 points, while Cooper Monast hit four 3-pointers in his 16-point effort.

The Warriors will take on the winner of the Fonda-Fultonville versus Mechanicville game for the championship.

ALBANY — Deanthony Colon delivered the game-winning free throw in the closing seconds of the game to lift Amsterdam into the championship game of the Christian Brothers Academy Holiday Tournament.

Colon finished with 19 points, while Louis Fedullo and Willie Brown finished with 14 points apiece.

Erik Salo and Patrick Ryan finished with 13 points apiece for Bethlehem, while William Davis and Michael Ortale both had 10 points.

Host CBA defeated LaSalle Institute 53-37 to earn its spot in the championship game that is slated to tip off at 7 p.m.
