Boys Basketball Roundup: Amsterdam outlasts Gloversville in opener

GLOVERSVILLE — Willie Brown finished with 20 points to lead Amsterdam to a 69-62 victory over Gloversville in a Foothills Council South Division boys basketball game at Gloversville High School on Friday.

It was the season-opening contest for both teams.

Osvauldo DeJesus scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Rams, while Deanthony Colon, Louis Fedullo and Jeff Brennan all finished with eight points.

Joey Rowback had a game-high 32 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Gloversville.

Dante Bouchard scored 16 points for the Dragons, while Julien Deumaga added eight points.

Amsterdam (1-0 overall, 1-0 Foothills) is slated to host Broadalbin-Perth on Tuesday, while Gloversville (0-1 overall, 0-1 Foothills) is set to host Glens Falls. Both games are slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.

The Tartans outscored the Sir Bills 17-7 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Ethan Wager scored 14 points to lead Johnstown (0-1 overall, 0-1 Foothills), which is scheduled to face Fonda-Fultonville today at Fulton-Montgomery Community College as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Tip-Off Classic at 7:45 p.m.

The Indians outscored the Patriots 21-8 in the second quarter on their way to the victory.

Trenton Girard scored 16 points for Glens Falls (1-0 Foothills), while Justin Holness added 10.

Troy Monroe scored 17 points to pace Broadalbin-Perth (0-1 overall, 0-1 Foothills), while Glenn Buyce added 11 points.
