Askew competing for Monmouth

EAST MEADOW – Johnstown High School graduate Trevor Askew, a freshman on the Monmouth University men’s Division 1 swimming team, posted several solid finishes at the 2017 Eastern College Athletic Conference Winter Championships. 

The meet took place at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in Long Island on Dec. 1 to 3.

Askew finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke for the Monmouth Hawks with a time of 2:07.91 which set a new school record.

Askew also erased the 400-yard individual medley school record by nearly 12 seconds with a 4:09.81 in his seventh-place swim. 

Askew was Monmouth’s individual point leader with 70 points adding a ninth-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a 1:57.06 for the Hawks.

Askew was part of the 800-yard freestyle relay which set a program record when they posted a 7:12.02 time.  Askew, Eric Sorensen, Ryan Hohman, and Hunter Klingener combined for the record time and a fifth-place finish.

Monmouth University men’s team finished fifth out of 13 teams in the team standings with 528 points over the three days of competition. 

Emmanuel College (Georgia) won the men’s team competition.
