Area ski teams open season at Johnsburg Invitational

NORTH CREEK — The nordic ski season kicked off Saturday with the Johnsburg Invitational at Gore Mountain Nordic Center.

Queensbury won the team titles in both the boys and girls meet.

In the boys competition, Queensbury’s Brian Beyerbach won with a time of 14:41.1.

Queensbury’s Daniel Manzella (15:12.8) was second and Johnsburg’s Seamus Tomb (15:52.9) was third.

Mayfield’s Dylan Bumpus was the top area finisher, placing 22nd with a time of 20:41.0.

Johnstown’s Zachary Ropeter (21:55.6) was 28th, Mayfield’s Luka Nikkolaj (21:59.6) was 30th and Mayfield’s Antonio Mannino (22:05.0) was 21st.

Also competing for Mayfield were Shawn Allen (33rd, 22:07.9) and Adam Liebers (38th, 22:55.2).

Also competing for Johnstown were Alfio DeMarco (41st, 23:25.2), Dominic DiScioscia (48th, 25:54.1) and Caleb Kobas (50th, 29:27.0).

Queensbury won the boys title with a total of 10 points, while host Johnsburg was second with 28 points. Shenendehowa (40 points) was third, Lake George (45) was fourth and Glens Falls (61) was fifth. Mayfield was eighth with 83 points and Johnstown was 10th with 117 points.

In the girls competition, Queensbury topped Shenendehowa, 18-24, to claim the team title. Johnsburg (46 points) was third, Guilderland (49) was fourth and Scotia-Glenville (58) was fifth. Mayfield and Johnstown both fielded incomplete teams.

Brighton’s Grace Mattern won the girls race with a time of 18:59.5. Rondout Valley’s Isabelle Serrano (19:15.1) was second and Queensbury’s Emily Atamanchuk (19:15.2) was third.

Mayfield’s Madison Relyea was the top area finisher, placing 21st with a time of 24:15.9.

Johnstown’s Lauryn Wilson (26:49.4) was 33rd and Mayfield’s Emily Frasier (20:37.2) was 36th.
