Schoff honored with second Hall of Fame induction

TROY — Phil Schoff was inducted into the Capital District Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009.

Sunday night the St. Johnsville resident received another honor reflecting on his athletic success as he was inducted into the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame in ceremonies Sunday night at the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel in Troy.

Schoff graduated from St. Johnsville High School in 1961 and attended Syracuse University on a basketball scholarship from 1961-65. During his tenure there he also played baseball for four years compiling a record of 15-4 on the mound. After graduation Schoff and his brothers played Town Team baseball in St. Johnsville from 1968-1993.

Schoff coached at various levels during his hears as an elementary school teacher at St. Johnsville from 1975 until retirement in 2000.

His boys’ varsity basketball teams won league championships in 1980-81, 85-86, and 86-87. His 1986-87 team made it to the New York State Final Four.

In 2009, Phil was inducted into the Capital District Basketball Hall of Fame, along with his daughters Wendi Schoff Waters (STJ Class of 1994) and Caryn Schoff Kovatch (STJ Class of 1995).
