Area soccer players compete for Herkimer

HERKIMER — Three Oppenheim-Ephratah graduate were part of the Herkimer College women’s soccer team this season.

The Lady Generals reached the National Junior College Athletic Association Division 3 championship game, losing to Brookhaven Community College, 2-1 in overtime Sunday.

Hannah Taylor, Alexis Romeyn and Caitlin Handy all played for Herkimer, along with Dolgeville graduates Emily Giarusso, Sarah George and Rachael Gross.

Johnstown’s Mallory Baldwin also was a member of the Lady Generals’ roster.

George posted 19 goals and 14 assists for Herkimer, while Romeyn had a goal and 11 assists. Taylor posted for assists for the Lady Generals, Baldwin had two assists and Giarusso added one assist.

Herkimer finished the season with an 18-2 overall record.
