Boys Soccer Roundup: Wieczenski lifts FFCS to victory

FONDA — Evan Wieczenski scored on a direct kick with 1:04 remaining in overtime to lift Fonda-Fultonville to a victory over Fort Plain in a Western Athletic Conference boys soccer contest Wednesday.

Mitch Araya finished with two saves to post the shutout in goal for the Braves, who improved to 8-7 overall and 6-5 in WAC play.

Adan Vasquez made 10 saves for Fort Plain (2-10-1 overall, 1-9-1 WAC).

It was the final regular-season home game for Fonda-Fultonville seniors Joe Wilder, Josh Fancher, Jeremiah Tooley, Kyle Nare, Dallas Bryan, Oscar Ramirez, Brett Kneeskern, Yoan Cobon, Ryan Lewis and Wieczenski.

Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville 7, Mekeel Christian 1

ST. JOHNSVILLE — Trent Barker had two goals and two assists to lift Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville to a WAC victory over Mekeel Christian Academy.

Jack Brundage scored twice for the Wolves, while Braden Fredericks had a goal and an assist. Mason Snell and Colby Cover also scored for OESJ (12-2-1 overall, 9-1-1 WAC), while Seth Myers added an assist.

Andrew Ahlquist scored the lone goal for Mekeel Christian (0-10-1 WAC).

Elias Sanchez made two saves for OESJ, while Devon Brooks made 15 stops for Mekeel Christian.

Schoharie 3, Canajoharie 0

SCHOHARIE — Noah Fagnani finished with a goal and an assist to lead Schoharie to a WAC victory over Canajoharie.

Skyler Jankowski and Shawn Kendle also scored for the Indians, while Mitchell Barton added an assist.

Jacob Fagnani made four saves to post the shutout in goal for Schoharie (5-4-2 WAC).

Jared Bentz finished with eight saves for Canajoharie (2-12-1 overall, 1-9-1 WAC).

Northern Soccer League

Schroon Lake 6, Wells 2

SCHROON LAKE — Six different players scored in Schroon Lake’s victory over Wells.

Cian Bresnahan, Collin Bresnahan, Andrew Pelkey, Jordan DeZalia, Ryan Haneman and Gabriel Gratto all scored for the Wildcats.

Harrison Gereau made five saves for Schroon Lake.

Wells slipped to 2-8 overall and 2-8 in NSL play.

Non-league

Scotia-Glenville 5, Galway 0

GALWAY — Jared O’Connor finished with two goals and an assist to lead Scotia-Glenville to a non-league victory over Galway.

Kyle Steele, Dominick Jack and Jacob Rousseau also scored for the Tartans, while Keith Ogden, David Currie and Jacob McKenzie each had an assist.

It was the third straight loss for Galway, which slipped to 9-5 overall.
