Girls Swimming Roundup: Fonda-Johnstown picks up Foothills Council victory over Gloversville-Mayfield
GLOVERSVILLE — The Fonda-Johnstown girls swim team recorded victories in eight out of 12 events to pick up a 98-82 Foothills Council victory over Gloversville-Mayfield Tuesday at the Gloversville Middle School pool.
Emily Miles and Emma Rizzo were double individual winners for FoJo, while Isabelle Willis scored a pair of individual victories for Gloversville-Mayfield.
Miles touched the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.42) and the 100-yard freestyle (56.28).
Rizzo won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 28.29 and the 100-yard backstroke in 1:13.75.
Willis topped the podium in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:09.47 and the 200-yard freestyle in 2:15.45.
Rizzo and Miles also swam on the victories 200-medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay teams with Abigail Rizzo and Sophia Frenyea.
Abigail Rizzo also picked up the victory in the 100-yard butterfly.
Also winning individual events for Gloversville-Mayfield were Libbie Sturgess (1-meter diving) and Katlyn Rivera (200-yard individual medley).
“I am very proud of the girls this evening,” Fonda-Johnstown co-captain Emma Rizzo said. “We did not have any divers this evening but we were able to overcome a 10-point deficit to secure the victory.”

Queensbury 90, Amsterdam 74
AMSTERDAM — Queensbury won eight of 12 events on its way to a Foothills Council victory over Amsterdam.
Paige Bertuch (100 backstroke) and Anastacia Montalvo (100 breaststroke) won individual events for the Lady Rams, who also won the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays.
