Duanesburg sweeps WAC meet

FONDA — With construction underway at Mayfield High School, the Panthers cross-country team moved its home meet to Fonda and the 3.1-mile course at Sand Flats Orchards.

Running against Duanesburg and Schoharie in a Western Athletic Conference double-dual meet, Mayfield fielded incomplete teams as it dropped meets on Thursday.

The Duanesburg boys swept the meet, defeating Schoharie 17-39, while the Duanesburg girls took both victories against incomplete scores from both Mayfield and Schoharie.

Duanesburg’s Boone Lynch and Andrew Drescher took the top two spots in the boys race, covering the 3.1-mile course in 19:03.2 and 19:04.4 respectively.

Mayfield’s Tyler Newkirk third with his time of 19:10.5, while Duanesburg’s Sal Gallo was fourth in 19:14.4 and Schoharie’s Andrew Hahn was fifth in 19:15.2.

Also competing for the Panthers were Riley Mykel who finished seventh in 19:58.6, followed by Shawn Allen in 12th with a time of 23:16 and Nick Angelo with a 16th place finish in 28:15.

Duanesburg swept the top four spots in the girls race with Elaine Atanasova leading the way with her time of 21:55.4.
