Caroga Creek bests Mother Nature

EPHRATAH — Despite an early evening shower, the karts were flying on the 1/5-mile clay oval last Saturday night at the Todd Moran owned/promoted Caroga Creek Speedway.

More than 70 teams were in the pits on a night that saw a non-points event and the Unlimited All Stars were in town for the first of two 2017 UAS events.

The entire 12-division program of practice, heats and features was completed by 10:30 p.m.

Points will resume this Saturday with a regular show.

The entire 2017 remaining schedule at Caroga Creek will be released shortly and will include the New York Dirt Kart Series on Sept. 9.

The recently staged fundraiser for the Melodies Center at Albany Med for Children with Cancer and Blood disorders on Aug. 3 was a rousing first-time success. CCS owner/promoter Todd Moran announced that a total of $6,104 was raised through the efforts of CCS Staff, the three divisions who competed (junior 2 turquoise, stock heavy and wing champs (Tom Varin) driven by 18 all stars, Bob Weaver who assembled the Dirty Dozen, Bobby and Danny Varin at Supply Wagon Rentals of Johnstown, Hendrick Motorsports, area media reps, various race team donations for the 50/50 and lots of old and new area race fans many who had never been to Caroga Creek Speedway.

Gates will open Saturday at 2 p.m., practice for all divisions will commence at 4 p.m. with the first heat qualifying events getting the green flag at 6 p.m. General admission is $10 for everyone age 5 and older, with those 4 and younger free.
