Canajoharie defeats Fonda-Fultonville in WAC golf

CANAJOHARIE — Fonda-Fultonville’s Adam DeSorbo shot a sectional qualifying 2-over par 37 to earn medalist honors at Thursday’s Western Athletic Conference match against host Canajoharie at Canajoharie Country Club.

Despite DeSorbo’s round, the Braves fell to Canajoharie 11 1/2-3 1/2. The Cougars won the four-man team total 189-192.

Aidan O’Neil and Derek Countryman led the Cougars with rounds of 45, while Jacob Montanye shot 48, Mike Tiberio and Tyler Christman carded 51s and Kyle Oertel finished with a round of 66

Jake Bowles shot a 51 for Fonda-Fultonville, while Al Mancini and Max Shirley both turned in rounds of 52. Matt Zumbolo carded a 56 and Gabe Mormile rounded out the scoring with a 73.

Galway 13, Northville/Mayfield 2

NORTHVILLE — Galway’s Ryan Loveless turned in a sectional qualifying round of 3-over 39 to earn medalist honors in WAC action Thursday at Sacandaga Golf Course.

Nick Zuk posted a round of 47 for the golden Eagles, while Matty Smith shot 55 and Josh Lovelass carded a 60. Jon Fajans and Caleb Oughton round out the Galway golfers with rounds of 66 and 96 respectively.

George Abdella paced Northville/Mayfield with his round of 67, while Owen Mormile shot 69, Gavin Bown 73, Cameron Abdella 76, James Deronda 77 and Mackenzie Cramer shot 85.

Schoharie 11 1/2, Northville/Mayfield 3 1/2

COBLESKILL — John Polley led Schoharie to the Western Athletic Conference victory with his round of 48 Wednesday at the Cobleskill Country Club.

He was joined by Louis Hardendorf’s 55, while Shane Helmstadt turned in a 68 and Blake Smart shot 69. Zack Zinsow and Seth Walker turned in round of 70 and 75 respectively.

Cameron Abdella led Northville/Mayfield with his round of 60, while George Abdella turned in a 62 and James DeRonda had a 69. Gavin Bown finished with a 71 and Owen Mormile carded an 81.

Broadalbin-Perth 177, Amsterdam 180

AMSTERDAM — Broadalbin-Perth’s Mike Piska and Amsterdam’s Stephen Knack both shot 39 to led all scorers Thursday at Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course.

Dom Zippiere turned in a 40, while Stuart Bond shot 44 and Matt Danise turned in a 54 to give the Patriots (2-0) the edge in the final score.

Mike Hughes turned in a 41 for Amsterdam (0-1), while Ryan Welch carded a 59 and Erin Rivera finished with a round of 51.
