Edwards claims modified feature win at Glen Ridge
FULTONVILLE — Last Sunday David Constantino made a late-race pass to grab the 602 crate modified feature away from Chad Edwards.
Edwards did not let it happen two weeks in a row as he got to the front and held off Constantino through a series of late-race restarts to pick up the victory in the 25-lap main event Sunday night at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park.
Joining Edwards with feature wins Sunday were Nick Stone (pro stock), Marty Kelly III and P.J. Bleau (4-cylinders). Darryl Hulbert won the modified division and John “The Dancing Bear” Constantino picked up the sportsman division victory in the added Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modified Series (MVVDMS) main event.
Chris Curtis and Harry Shaffer brought the field of 18 crate modifieds to the green with Curtis jumping out to the early lead over Kurtis Hohensheldt and Edwards.
Edwards used the low groove to get past Hohensheldt and Curtis to take the lead on lap six.
Constantino was making his way to the front from his ninth starting spot and made the most of a lap 10 restart to settle in behind Edwards.
Edwards was up to the challenge in the Spencer Racing No. 37 as he held off Constantino through seven restarts including a final restart that set up a one-lap shoot out to collect his first win of the season at The Ridge.
Constantino came home in second, followed by Tim Hartman Jr., Brian Calabrese and Hohensheldt.
Jason Samrov grabbed the early lead in the 20 lap pro stock feature and set the pace for the opening seven laps.
Stone used a lap eight restart to wrestle the lead away from Samrov and led the final 12 laps to pick up his second-straight feature win at The Ridge.
Samrov held off Ivan Joslin for the runner-up spot, while Luke Horning battled back from a mid-race spin to finish fourth and Shane Playford rounds out the top five.
Kelly and Vinny Visconti brought the limited sportsman field to the green with Kelly taking the lead and was never headed in the caution-free 20-lap main event. Mike Jackson got up for second followed by Visconti, Lou Torres and Gary DeRocher completing the top five.
After being red-flagged on the opening lap when outside pole-sitter T.J. Marlitt rolled entering turn three, the 4-cylinder feautred close racing with Bleau and Chris Andrews swapping leads with Bleau outlasting the field for the win. Cole Lawton got past Andrews on the final lap to get second with Wayne Russell Jr. crossing under the checkers in fourth.
Racing returns to Glens Ridge Motorsports Park next Sunday with the street stock division joining the regular race program for a Full Fender Frenzy. The Crate Modifieds will be awarded show up points for the night’s race program.
