Mohawks’ win streak hits nine
UTICA — Liam Wilson had a two-run home run, a double and went 3-for-3 to lift Amsterdam to a 7-4 victory over Utica in a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League contest Monday at Donovan Stadium.
The Mohawks out hit the Blue Sox 11-5 and got on the board quickly, grabbing a 4-0 lead, scoring two runs in the first and second innings.
Utica would come back adding two in the third and one in the fifth after Amsterdam added another one in the top half of the fifth, making it a two-run game at 5-3. Amsterdam would then add one in the sixth and one in the eighth, and would hold on to the three-run lead to notch their ninth straight victory.
John Valente finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs for the Mohawks, Jake Mueller was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and Dan Maynard was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Will Holland added a double and two runs scored for Amsterdam.
Taylor Olmstead went 2-for-4 for Utica (4-16 overall), while Cole Pursell had a double and two RBIs.
Mathieu Gauthier (N.C. State) got the start and the win for Amsterdam, going five innings allowing only three runs on three hits and four walks. He also had two strikeouts and four walks.
Dylan Leahy (Keystone College) was booked with the loss for Utica, pitching six innings allowing six runs on nine hits and two walks. He had five strikeouts for the Blue Sox, who have lost six straight games.
Amsterdam (15-6 overall) is scheduled to host Utica today at 6:35 p.m. at Shuttleworth Park.
