Barnhart to speak at 30th sports awards banquet

GLOVERSVILLE — The Fulton Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce will host its 30th Annual Sports Award Banquet Wednesday at the Holiday Inn, 308 N. Comrie Avenue in Johnstown at 7 p.m. with keynote speaker Adam Barnhart.

At the event, the Chamber hosts and honors the top 36 athletes from Fulton County high schools, representatives from those school’s championship teams and their coaches and names a male and female Athlete of the Year.

Adam Barnhart is a 1995 graduate of Johnstown High School, where he was a three-sport athlete, playing football, basketball, and baseball all through high school.  While he was named to numerous All Foothills teams for all three sports, and also was an All-State receiver, he feels that his biggest award was being named the Fulton County Athlete of the Year in 1995.

After high school, Barnhart went to Lynn University in Boca Raton, FL on a baseball scholarship.  After a year he transferred to SUNY Cortland where he played football and baseball.  While at Cortland he set many individual records for hitting and put outs in the outfield, but participating in three straight College World Series was one of the highlights of his college career. He was also the captain for Red Dragons baseball team in his senior year.

After college, Barnhart and his wife Sarah started teaching in Northern Virginia. Once their daughter, Rose, was born they moved back to New York where he taught physical education for the Greater Johnstown School District. He coached many sports for Johnstown including varsity baseball.

In 2006 Barnhart was hired as the Athletic Director for Broadalbin-Perth school district and has taken on many roles for the district since. He currently serves as Director of Health and Physical Education/Assistant Principal of Broadalbin-Perth High School. He has coached in the Broadalbin Youth Commission for years helping to shape the direction of youth programs.

A limited number of tickets are available at $25 per person and can be obtained at the Chamber’s Gloversville office at 2 N. Main St. or at the Holiday Inn.

Sponsorship opportunities also are available for Chamber-member businesses.
