Lady Bills outlast Cohoes in overtime, 14-13

JOHNSTOWN — In a game that lasted nearly five hours, the Johnstown girls lacrosse team posted a 14-13 overtime victory over Cohoes in the Section II Class D quarterfinals at Knox Field.

The game began at 4 p.m. and didn’t end until 8:50 p.m. due to multiple weather delays.

Johnstown trailed 11-9 with just over 12 minutes remaining in regulation before rallying to tie the game at 13 and send it to overtime.

In the extra session, Kaitlyn Serpa scored to lift the fourth-seeded Lady Bills to the victory over the fifth-seeded Tigers.

It was the second meeting in three days for the teams as Johnstown posted a 19-10 home win over Cohoes on Tuesday.

Serpa finished with three goals for Johnstown, while Maddie Etherton had three goals and two assists.

Mango Delgado, Amber Tesi and Abbie Hollister all scored twice for the Lady Bills, while Paige Stewart and Alley Queeney also scored. Sam Simon added an assist for Johnstown.

Sam Dayter finished with nine goals and an assist for Cohoes, while Abby Monson scored twice. J.J. Wilkinson and Maddie Johnson also scored for the Tigers.

Emily Wheelis (6 saves) and Mari-Anna Manchester (10 saves) split time in goal for the Lady Bills, while Rebecca Lefitus made 15 stops for Cohoes.

Johnstown (9-7 overall) advances to the Class D semifinals to face top-seeded Schuylerville at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.

The Black Horses won both regular-season meeting between the Foothills Council rivals, posting a 19-3 victory at home April 24 and a 19-4 victory at Johnstown on May 10.
