Having last competed in January in Chicago where he won the American Karate Association Karate Championships, Sheldon Howard returned to the competitive arena in New York City on April 23. Howard had taken a few months off from competing to allow for a hand injury to heal. It did not prevent him from training, but kept him out of competition for three months. At the New York State AAU Karate Championships, Howard, a sixth-degree black belt, returned with two medals — one gold and one silver. Howard, who also holds black belt ranking in and competes in Tae Kwon Do, is scheduled to return to New York City in June for the Tae Kwon Do Rumble.
