Area players earn all-state honors

Several area girls basketball players were among those named to the recently announced New York State Sportswriters Association all-state teams.

Amsterdam senior Nina Fedullo was named third-team all-state in Class A for the second straight year, while Amsterdam junior Guiliana Pritchard was named to the 13th team. Gloversville sophomore Harmony Philo was named to the seventh team in Class A.

Fedullo finished her senior season as the Lady Rams’ all-time scoring leader with 1,500 career points. She will attend the College of Saint Rose next fall.

Fedullo and Philo were named to the Foothills Council all-league team. They also were named South Division first-team all-stars.

Fedullo was the Foothills Council Most Valuable Player last season and was named to the Section II Class A all-tournament team in each of the last two seasons. Philo also was named to the Class A all-tournament team this season.

Pritchard was named a first-team Foothills Council South Division all-star.

Fonda-Fultonville senior Julianna Taylor was named to the 11th team in Class C, while Mayfield junior Sydney Sheldon was named honorable mention in Class C. Taylor earned honorable-mention all-state status as a junior.

In Class D, Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville senior Merari Freeman was named to the third team, while Northville junior Hannah Coupas was named to the fifth team.

Freeman and Coupas were named to the first-team Western Athletic Conference all-stars in the Mohawk Division, while Taylor and Sheldon were named first-team WAC all-stars in the Hudson Division.

Several other Section II players were among those named to the all-state team.

In Class AA, Columbia’s Selena Lott was named to the first team, Shaker’s Sierra Mayo was named to the third team and Shenendehowa’s Cameron Tooley was named to the eighth team. Also earned all-state honors in Class AA were Saratoga Springs’ Catherine Cairns (10th team), Niskayuna’s Olivia Owens (11th team), Shenendehowa’s Alexandra Tudor (11th team), Troy’s Sierra Wolfe (14th team), Bethlehem’s Emily Wander (honorable mention), Saratoga Springs’ Kerry Flaherty (honorable mention) and Shaker’s Shyla Sanford (honorable mention).

Mohonasen’s Saeeda Abdul-Aziz was named to the first team in Class A, while Averill Park’s Stephanie Jankovic was named to the seventh team. Also earning Class A all-state recognition were Averill Park’s Kathryn Stackrow (ninth team), Scotia-Glenville’s Caitlin Estes (12th team) and Lansingburgh’s Nylasia Sutton (honorable mention).

Section II Class B champion Glens Falls had Sophie Tougas (first team) and Lucy Tougas (fourth team) named to the all-state team, while Watervliet had Ali Changa (12th team) and Saige Roberts (14th team) earn all-state honors. Also named all-state in Class B were Hoosick Falls’ Kelly Pine (fourth team), Cohoes’ Nerea Brajac (ninth team), Tamarac’s Emily Erickson (ninth team) and Hudson’s Jasmyne Peck (honorable mention).

In Class C, Section II champion Mekeel Christian Academy had Liz Singleton (third team), Rebekkah Dean (fourth team) and Jessie Show (seventh team) named to the all-state team. Also named to the all-state team in Class C were Lake George’s Graceann Bennett (second team), Greenville’s Ava Fitzmaurice (seventh team), Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Monique Britton (10th team) and Middleburgh’s Lyndsey McCoy (honorable mention).

North Warren, which won the Section II Class D title, had Madasyn Bush (third team) and Sydney Gagnon (eighth team) earn all-state honors.

Heatly’s Cameran Henderson and Kyra Oeffler were named to the sixth team, while Salem’s Jesse Vidal was named honorable mention.
