H.S. Baseball Roundup: Phillips earns 750th career win

FORT PLAIN — Fort Plain baseball coach Craig Phillips became the first coach in New York State Public High School Athletic Association history to reach 750 career wins Wednesday.

The Hilltoppers defeated Mekeel Christian Academy, 14-3, in a Western Athletic Conference contest.

Phillips, who was named state Class D Coach of the Year in 2016 after leading the Hilltoppers to the state title, is in his 44th year as Fort Plain coach.

Bryce Thibodeau drove in three runs for Fort Plain (6-2 overall, 4-1 WAC). Thibodeau and Zack Reid each had a double and single, while Mike D’Arcangelis added a single and two RBIs.

Mike Show had two singles for Mekeel.

CANAJOHARIE — Joe Trembley had two hits and three RBIs to lead Canajoharie to a WAC victory over Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville.

Aidan O’Neil had two hits and two RBIs for the Cougars (5-4 overall, 5-2 WAC), while Griffin Collins had a hit and three RBIs.

OESJ slipped to 2-6 overall and 1-5 in WAC play with the loss.

SCOTIA — Aaron Dona, Brandon Becker and Korey Cotugno all singled to account for Gloversville’s three hits as Scotia-Glenville’s Lucas Terwilliger struck out 12 to get the Tartans back in the win column after back-to-back league losses to Amsterdam.

Nick Thomas connected for a 2-run home run and drove in four runs, while Joe Greene picked up two RBIs with his two hits for Scotia-Glenville (6-4 overall, 6-3 Foothills).
