Boys Basketball Roundup: Panthers cruise past Cougars, 72-55

FONDA — Garret Delaney hit five 3-pointers and finished with 21 points to lead Mayfield to a 72-55 victory over Canajoharie in a Western Athletic Conference boys basketball crossover game Tuesday at Fonda-Fultonville High School.

The Panthers led 32-30 at the half before outscoring the Cougars 40-25 in the second half to secure the victory.

Brendan Gifford finished with 17 points, five rebounds and five assists for Mayfield (13-7 overall), Trevon Gifford posted 14 points and seven rebounds. Jared Albertin added 14 points for the Panthers.

Lucas Sossei scored 15 points to lead Canajoharie (13-7 overall), while Mike Hartlieb had 10 points and 15 rebounds. Trevor Folts added 12 points for the Cougars.

Both teams now await the pairings for the Section II Class C Tournament, which will be announced today.

FONDA — Schoharie connected on 15 3-pointers on its way to a WAC crossover victory over Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville.

Steve Alescio and Mitch Barton each scored 17 points to lead Schoharie (15-5 overall), while Jon Bernhardt added 11.

A.J. Hayes scored 25 points to lead OESJ (13-7 overall). Hayes also passed the 1,000-point mark for his career in the game. Jack Brundage and Tyler Leon each scored eight points for the Wolfpack, who now await today’s pairings for the Section II Class D Tournament.

JOHNSTOWN — Carter Stewart finished with 20 points to lead Mekeel Christian Academy to a victory over Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons in the Western Athletic Conference championship game at Fulton-Montgomery Community College.

Deonte Holder scored 19 points for the Lions, who won their sixth straight WAC title game.

Jordan Jackson finished with 17 points for Mekeel Christian (19-0 overall), while Oscar Iteji added 13 points.

Noah Foster scored 21 points to lead Bishop Gibbons, while Kyle Dikeman and Nacier Hundley each had 11 points.

The Indians outscored the Rams 49-26 on their way to the victory.

Tony Green added 23 points for Glens Falls (20-0 overall).

Anthony Aponte finished with 30 points to lead Amsterdam (12-8), while Robbie Spagnola added 17 points.

Amsterdam now awaits the pairings for the Section II Class A Tournament, which will be announced today.
