Fort Plain’s Briggs earns WAC scholarship

FORT PLAIN – Fort Plain’s Kiernan Briggs was recently awarded the Western Athletic Conference North Division Boys Scholar-Athlete Scholarship for 2014-15 at the league’s year-end banquet.

Briggs played soccer, basketball and baseball for Fort Plain. He was co-captain of the soccer and basketball teams for his junior and senior seasons. He also is a member of the concert band, jazz band, student council, National Honor Society, Peer Mentor. He has served as vice president of Student Council and Honor Society as well as class of 2015 Treasurer for past six years.

Briggs was presented with a plaque and a $500 scholarship for 2015 as recipient of this award. Fort Plain athletic director Charlie Karker presented the award to Kiernan at the dinner.

Briggs will be attending Utica College in the fall as a mathematics major. He is the son of David and Lynn Briggs and grandson of Carolyn Briggs of Fort Plain, Robert and Marion Failing of St. Johnsville and Hazel Sears of Woodgate.
