ZDK students compete in tourney
JOHNSTOWN — Students of the American Zen Do Kai Martial Arts School in Johnstown recently competed in their annual school tournament. AZDK students compete in this in-house event each year in order to gain experience for upcoming tournaments.
“Tournament competition is an exciting part of what we do here at the school,” said Robert Streeter, chief instructor at the Johnstown school. “The club tournament gives the students a good ‘dress rehearsal’ for the competitions we attend each year, and it teaches them how to compete and do their very best, while learning good sportsmanship as well.”
“The families that attend the in-school tournament are always pleased with the progress the students are showing with their confidence levels, martial arts skills and how much fun they have during and after the competition,” said Bonnie Streeter. “This is a great opportunity for the newer students to watch the more advanced members perform and see what they can achieve by continuing their training.”
In advanced adult division competition, Ryan Dorfman won a gold medal in form and a gold medal in sparring. Blake Blessing won silver medals in both form and sparring.
