The Boy Scouts of America is a religious organization with conservative Christian values. This is a private group. Participation is voluntary. They should absolutely NOT change their policy.

I recited this pledge as a child and young man and will pass on this heritage to my son. In my home we teach tolerance of others and do not force our beliefs on them.

Tunerlady next you'll say the Atheists should be allowed to join a Christian Group. It's a private group! They don't have to allow Gays in, nor do they have to allow girls to join. If taxpayer’s money supports the group then yes they need to allow gays in. Other than that the Gay and Lesbian community are free to start their own group.

People, wake up! Girls are already able to join the Boy Scouts of America. They have been able to join the BSA Explorer Scouts for years. I had several in my Law Enforcement Post in Colorado and they worked just as hard as the boys did. Lets do a 6 month trial for Gays, if there is a problem, then exclude them.

When did all of this become an issue?? And why is it always OK for the girls to participate in "boy stuff" but never the other way around. Where is the issue of lesbians in girl scouting ??
Erheimer, very good points. I too recited that pledge at every meeting. This question in on par with the last women in combat and gays in boy scouts? What has our world come to when it wants to plant seeds of trouble in areas that should be left without? Why put a child in danger? Either side should see the danger of putting a gay child with other young boys. What possible good can come from it? Would you let your young girl go camping with boys? Or want your son to go on outings with daises? Stop and think for a change!
Isn't this sort of like asking if Republicans should accept liberals? Seriously, the rules for gaining membership into a private organization or group is solely at the discretion of that group. If you don't like their rules start your own group.
