Cranesville has own the old mall for years and if you have been in it later has let it crumble around the few medical businesses that are there. They would have acquire a lot more around both properties to build a casino in the middle of Main Street.
Another question that might be good for a poll question would be: If New York State opened casinos throughout the State, how many of you would actually go and hand your hard earned money over to the State?
Our section of the Eisenhower Interstate System or Thomas E Dewey Thruway (NYS Thruway) was supposed to be paid for and tolls abolished when the construction bonds were paid off. The last bond was paid off in 1996. The tolls are still in place because 4 years earlier, when nobody was paying attention the NYS Legislature transferred ownership of the NYS Canal System to the New York State Thruway AUTHORITY. Yep, another unaccountable Authority practicing highway robbery. The Thruway Authority has been losing money since and are having a hard time setting up the sale of construction bonds for the proposed new Tappen Zee Bridge. Nobody wants them, New York is too big a risk so the taxpayer and toll road user will end up eating this cost too. There is not one Authority in NYS that posts a profit...why is that???
NYS loses money in every single thing, except the thruway and that is because they keep the price high. We even subsidised NYRA as taxtired said and it still lost millions of dollars. NYS needs to take a break... lets get rid of stuff first so we can tax like normal states do.
I wish the Governor would propose something that would put money in peoples pockets instead of ways to take more out. Something like getting rid of regulations that keep Manufacturing out. Drill for NG instead of hand-wringing and inventing reason not to. Use our God-given resources, people for something other than a pocketbook. Instead of gagging, turn the entrepreneur loose like other States. Nope, make it harder to earn money and make it easier for Albany to take our money and try to lure in others to fleece them out of theirs. Who's not for progress??? The entire 'Progressive' movement that's who.
Laker, Albany has tried every conceivable way to get TS to get them to give them a cut but we have Tribes with better Lawyers that don't give in...at all. One of their cards is the ability to close the NYS Thruway at a drop of a tomahawk. NYS can't do a thing about it because it runs through their Nation. All the State Police can do is line up on the Eastern/Western borders, and stare menacingly. Nothing else. You're absolutely right Stackrat.
Hey Scarecrow, what are the presently EMPLOYED Indians supposed to do once we steal their livelihood once again? Maybe they can come to Fulton county and jump on the train like everyone else, right? At least we have plenty of housing.
The top reason Albany wants public casinos in the state is simply this, TO PUT THE INDIANS OUT OF BUSINESS! That way the scumbags in Albany can have all the tax dollars they cant get their hands on now. It is a top priority with Albany and their thugs the State Police.
Let me see. Jobs, income, tax money, improved economy (leading to lower crime) What is not to like.
And while we are at it; since NY is 1 of the only states to outlaw fireworks let's make them legal too. I'm tired of driving out of state for my fireworks.
I think in Florida the State gets a % from the Indian owned casinos. Too bad NY doesn't get a cut from Turning Stone...although I've heard rumblings that TS is generous to the Verona Sch District and community.
well it looks like Mr cransville block will get his wish. in case none of you know this. he purchased the amsterdam mall and that 8 story bank on market and main with full intention of building a casino.. so now we know why they redistricted montgomery county....
honorable or not. it looks like jobs for all soon....
Your southern neighbor PA made the move a few years ago and there haven't really been any problems. BUT it is surprising how much $$$$ flows in. And no real crime problems. As wea said in this thread and br the then Gov. of PA "Fast" Ed(die) Rendel - Why let the money go to Jersey ??
For several years the Trump lobby has been out in force to keep casinos out of NY, to protect his Atl City investments. With the economic woes in NYS, I support the casino proposal...more jobs, and revenue. I know some have moral objections, that's their right. Agree with Hill in that the chances of a casino in our immediate area are slim to none!
Sure bring them on, then I can open a pawn shop similar to Les' American Jewelry and Loan. Everyone can bring in their stuff to get gambling money and I will charge good interest and if they don't claim within the time limit, I will sell their stuff for a profit. Sounds good to me.

Remember Cuomo capped property taxes that lots of areas went over because they can't afford to fund the crazy mandates that Albany dreams up
