No, Having lived most of my life in Colonie, NY area traveling to Latham, NY many times and going around the traffic circle anyone that whats the roundabout should spend a busy Friday evening driving around the traffic circle for at least 1 hour. Then you will see the stupidity off a roundabout in the U.S.A.

I know a roundabout will keep trafic moving.. HOWEVER at the expense to install one, Not a good idea... All you need to do is install turn lanes and ARROWS to allow trafic time to turn (without all that passing on the Right,an accident waiting to happen!!!) This would be less costly and time consuming.. NYSDOT "Get Real"

All they need to do, and it would save money, is put traffic turn arrows on all four sides. Tearing up this intersection for god knows how long would cause more money, problems and headaches for everyone. Look how long it took them to fix Rte 30 north of Mayfield last year for the large "sink hole", it started in the Spring and it took them all summer into September to fix it! Are you prepared to re-route traffic on the back roads in this area? What a nightmare. Installing traffic Turn Arrows should not take more than a few days to a week at most! Don't forget, this is the "Gateway to the Adirondacks" and you are trying to get people to come to Fulton County not chase them away.

I think the idea is stupid and will just confuse already confused drivers even more.Put some green arrows in on the traffic lights and that will make a world of difference.Besides it would look stupid in that area there just is no need for it.

Another attempt at Europenizing America.

Maybe if the State Police or Sleepy Sheriffs Office took time to enforce traffice law at intersections they would be safer.

With gas prices at $3.75 and climbing, soon no one will be able to afford to drive anyway. So the million dollar roundabout will be worthless.

Roundabouts are common in cities where traffic needs to move quickly, safely and efficeintly and used in other states quite commonly. Get current hill folk and try a new fangled idea.

Native and Walk4life, perhaps if all drivers were perfect, then round abouts would work.

I travel Rt 67 in Malta daily where there are several, they work very well and streamline the traffic. It's the idiot drivers and the ultra low standards for drivers licenses that needs to be evaluated.

AuntieKracker: Please show proof regarding the preposterous claim that somehow a roundabout will give someone a job. A new light at the intersection would create the same amount of work.

I think we should also consider taking out the dummy light in Canajoharie. Talk about a dangerous intersection!

Patriot1 I agree with you... those lights are in Nelliston and Fonda that I have noticed...red/green arrow ones and they work like a charm. NO accidents have occured there since installing them. When these simple solutions work so well...why waste the money on roundabouts that will only lead to disater??? Walk4life, it's the "at first" that concerns me...how many accidents will have to occur until people are familiar or are comfortable with driving through them at first????

Not a good idea. Too many senior citizens will get to confused. Not a good idea in ths area.

I agree with the plan. I live close to the intersection and a number of significant personal injury accidents have occurred there. Roundabouts dramatically reduce the rate of serious crashes and improve traffic flow. Distrust of roundabouts is high, I believe, because most drivers aren't familiar with or comfortable with driving through them at first.

Just one more example of "failed state oversight".

At this particular junction, I believe that this is a recipe for disaster. A simple red/green light with red/green arrows timed to control the turns of traffic (a simple traffic light which works very well in New York City) would be more than sufficient to adequately control the flow of traffic at this location. Rocket science is not appropriate when a simple solution is readily available!!

You got to be kidding me! A "round-a-bout" in this day and age? No way! That is one of the most dangerous means of controlling traffic that I can think of. I live in Florida. Over in Clearwater they put in a "round-a-bout" a few years ago to help control the speed of traffic heading towards the beach, at a cost of several million dollars. It caused so many problems and accidents that about two years later the state tore it out and put the straight road back in. What a relief! Round-a-bouts were put in backin the 1920's & 1930's as an easy way of controlling traffic, at a time back then when there wasn't nearly as much traffic as today. Also, drivers back then were much more courteous, not like the dip heads driving today. Don't do it.....you will be sorry!

It will be a nightmare until people gets used to it. Think I will stay far away from it until it all settles in.

I think it is just a way to give someone's brother/nephew a job.
