Who are they kidding? They laided off a typist that make the least amount of money (26,856 )and did away with VACANT Positions...How in the world did one position save the county? Why are there two County Treasurers? The board on Monday abolished nine vacant positions, including two full-time sheriff's deputies and one sheriff's investigator. Supervisors also laid off one full-time county employee in an occupied position, a typist, which cut $26,856 in the county Real Property Tax Services Agency's 2012 budget. How did vacant positions cost us money? Was someone collecting a check? Getting paid Benefits? I think if this is reported correctly then the Attorney General's office needs to investigate how vacant jobs cost taxpayers.
Why is the county paying extra to have county phone numbers blocked? Another Stead move costing taxpayers money! He must think he's in the Secret Service that no one should know the phone number calling you!
Therefore, as Jonny stead Plays God with county employees and Public Safety when HE shuts down the Sheriff Department will he respond to emergencies. Will his Phone number be public after this mess? BOS are just his puppets, which he manipulates to do things his way. Which by the way cost us the hardworking taxpayers even more money every year. The last county auction proves he is a spend, spend, spend clerk. There was a brand new, never used drawing table that someone had to have and it went for mere pennies. Wide bed printers someone had to have…again mere pennies…computers $35.00 a piece….seriously the majority of the people that surf the web on county time could still be using those pc’s…nope Spend happy Jonny had to get his buddies new ones that surf faster! He is a failure and yet his friends gave him a fat raise….STEAD MUST GO!
Mont. Co. taxpayers lost one of their patrol cars when a deputy hit black ice at an intersection and totalled it. I wonder if he was ticketed for going too fast for road condition?
Not exactly ataxpayer. Mont Cnty will not get ANY levy from me that is on the 'NYS Mandate' line on my prop. tax bill. Also, property is taxed at a higher rate on that line than the twn/cnty rate. Almost double. $24.28/1000 for Mandates versus $13.07/1000 for County. Another injustice that will have to be corrected, but for now, one thing at a time.
Here's the deal - the poll results reveal that the majority of the taxpayers want Fulton Co. to withhold the payments from the state. The sad reality - our elected officials will decide on their own. Next question....
Stackrat, great idea...let's hold onto the money until they get rid of the Steadmeister and his puppets! You can't tell the public to tighten their belts more while sucking more money out of the taxpayers for your fat raise. The almight airport, exactly how much are we losing on that for some private planes to fly in and out? Now they want a weather station there??? For whom? 2 or 3 private planes? Who was the airport expanded for? Was it the "Build it and they will come?" way of thinking? if so who came because of it?
Mr BoB51, do the math. About 70% of the people in nursing homes are on MEDICAID, (ask the nursing homes!) at around $180 a day per resident. The rest of the people on Medicaid don't have a daily Medicaid expense. Email someone in Oneida County's government, ask them how well they made out last year when they with held their Medicaid payments?
Richard, I'm not sure of your figures since 56% of property tax feed the medicaid monster. That's one heck of a lot of elderly in nursing homes. Don't mistake medicaid for medicare. The property tax $ figure is around 13 million for Medicaid in 2010 and translates to around $13.33/hr. for each person collecting welfare in Ful. Co.. Lets start with Mr. Fagens idea and take it from there.
We'll show them! Just like we showed them a few years ago when the county refused to hire the mandated nurse for the jail. Oh yea, that only cost us two million dollars in county tax payer money, and the jail still had to hire the nurse. Fulton County has more moneycomingg in from the state than it pays out, being defiant could mean the tax payers will get punished again. What if the state stops paying Medicaid to the nursing homes in Fulton County? The majority of Medicaid payed out is for the elderly in nursing homes.
It's really not bringing in more revenue into the area. So people now shop at Kohl's instead of Target. I give Kohl's in Amsterdam about 2 years though, the area can't support that. Then Michael's craft store is coming in, so people will shop there instead of Joann Fabrics, Michaels will most likely put Joann's out of business. More money coming in - nope just flip-flopping and creating more empty buildings in Amsterdam.
It's not a win win if people don't stay in Fulton County....don't count the chicks before they hatch. Amsterdam is a bout to get yet another Hotel/motel by Lowes so that will cut into people driving into Johnstown for a room. Can someone tell me why Farley is still in Office? We need do'er in office not those that show up for pubilicity!
twocentsworth, BRAVO!!! I have been saying Stead should go long before he got his fat raise from whining that others made more than him.*****it up Jonny boy, join the private market, and see how far your whining gets you. Stead has been the thorn in the taxpayers’ side for a LONG time. I bet he will buy those expensive chairs, desks and some lame scanner for all his buddies! Since Stead is not union and he is not elected then we need to eliminate his position now to save money.
Again John Stead tells the board of supervisors they can not raise 120K by implementing a bed tax in Fulton county. Here is a way to save 100K a year get rid of John Stead.
Looks like the Mont. Cnty. Supervisors, in the finest tradition of chicken**** politics, kicked the can down the road once again. Afraid to buck the system and make the big cuts they now claim will have to be done next year. What a bunch of LOSERS.Two of them didn't even bother to show up to vote. Thanks a lot Supervisor Rajkowski, looks like we made a big mistake electing you in the Town of Mohawk. We wont be fooled by the likes of you again.
Unfortunately it is appearing that our governments are coming full circle. History seems to work in cycles as do many other aspects of life. I feel like we are moving back towards the high taxing, non representative type of government that our forefathers experienced under the rule of King George and the English. "We the People", "Land of Opportunity", and "American Dream" seem to be fading concepts under the last few decades of American Governmental Systems.
I've been saying this for the last few years...If the state is going to withold sales tax revenue - so what! The county will have the savings from Medicaid to use and still have a surplus. Don't stop there either...it's time for those who don't contribute to feel the cuts too.
JohnSteady
I see Jonny boy and one of his buddy disagrees with my comments...I guess the truth hurts!
